The eighth IMEX America, expanding into an additional hall, created from 16 to 18 October 2018 space for over 3,500 exhibitors representing 150 countries. A significant growth factor was the arrival of more than 60 new booths while 81 booths took larger spaces. Extending into a third hall has benefited the show in many ways. Carina Bauer, CEO IMEX Group said: “It’s allowed the investment made by exhibitors in colorful, creative booths to shine through. Many have chosen to immerse IMEX America attendees in their culture, legacy and values.” A record of over 13,000 participants took part in the event, among them were 6,000 plus attendees including more than 3,300 hosted buyers. Over 70,000 appointments were made – an increase of seven percent. In addition, 70 percent of appointments had RFPs attached. The education program also achieved a new record. 256 education sessions delivered by 150 speakers.

Associations World Congress & Expo

Emphasizing the participation of suppliers

The Association of Association Executives (AAE) restructures its Associations World Congress offering new educational content and emphasizing the participation of suppliers. AAE will introduce specific exhibitors that can solve challenges and meet the needs of the delegates provided on registration. The event name has been adjusted to the Associations World Congress & Expo taking place from 7 to 9 April 2019 at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden. Aside from the keynote sessions, there will be seven parallel talks on different topics and formats (presentations, discussions, crash-courses, briefings, case studies) so delegates can easily select according to their needs. The congress will also be live webcast.

Global Economic Significance of Business Events

More than one trillion dollars

The Events Industry Council (EIC) announced the preliminary results of a global study on the economic significance of business events. The „Global Economic Significance of Business Events“, conducted by Oxford Economics is the firstever comprehensive study on the impact of business events. According to the report, the worldwide direct spend of the meeting and event industry surpassed more than US$1.03 trillion in 2017 – reflecting the direct spendings in planning, producing, attending and/or hosting meetings, conferences, exhibitions and incentives. As a commercial engine, this would rank the business events sector alongside consumer electronics in terms of size and scope. In North America business events generated $381.0 billion of business events direct spending (37.0% of global business events direct spending), in Asia $290.9 billion and in Western Europe $266.0 billion. The research was made possible by a collaboration of the EIC in partnership with IMEX, Hilton, the MPI Foundation and the PCMA Education Foundation.

Istanbul Convention Bureau

New General Manager appointed

Cemil Hakan Kilic (Ph.D.) has been appointed as the new General Manager of Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau. Before he worked for the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Istanbul Commodity Exchange. Kilic graduated in Business Administration after completing under and postgraduate degrees in the USA followed by a Ph.D. from Istanbul University. He attended educational programs in various countries such as Japan, the USA and Spain.
