LVCVA: The future of transportation in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) announced a recommendation to select The Boring Company (TBC) to design, construct and operate a people mover for the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) via a loop of underground express-route tunnels that could carry passengers in autonomous electric vehicles at high speeds. Upon approval by the LVCVA Board of Directors, the project would be a first for Las Vegas and have the potential to connect Downtown, the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Las Vegas Boulevard Resort Corridor, McCarran International Airport and beyond. Currently in the midst of an expansion, the LVCC will span 200 acres when complete in 2021.

ICCA Board of Directors selects Senthil Gopinath

ICCA’s Board of Directors has selected Senthil Gopinath to serve as the organisation’s new CEO. As per ICCA by-laws, the Board made the selection in a closed-vote process, with Gopinath winning by majority vote. "Senthil brings the qualities that we most need in a leader at this juncture," said James Rees, ICCA President and Executive Director of ExCeL London. "Throughout his career, he has demonstrated not only that he can establish a vision, but also chart the tactical path to reach that vision, always working from a solid foundation of operational and financial expertise." Gopinath’s career in the meetings travel industry spans more than 20 years, with 18 years spent working within ICCA member organisations. Gopinath: "I am truly honoured to be appointed for such a prestigious position in one of the global meetings industry’s leading organisations. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the President and Board of Directors of ICCA in placing their confidence in me. Together with the ICCA team, we will work on the transformation of ICCA."

DCT Abu Dhabi and EXPO 2020 Dubai work hand in hand

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the organizers of Expo 2020 Dubai. The MoU seeks to coordinate the work of DCT Abu Dhabi and Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau to create various opportunities, including promoting the Expo and knowledge sharing and sets out a number of key areas, i.e. meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions (MICE). The agreement was signed on 26 March 2019 by Abu Dhabi by Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, Acting Executive Director of Marketing and Communication Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, and Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau. “Expo 2020 Dubai is an unprecedented global event for the UAE and the Arab world, and so it is vitally important that all entities in the UAE are working together to play their part,” said Al Shaiba. Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, said: “This MoU embodies Expo 2020’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ and will help our nation to welcome 190 countries to the largest event ever staged in the Arab world.”

Start-ups present navigation systems

Five young companies presented their Indoor Navigation systems to the EMECA Digital Business experts at NürnbergMesse. EMECA had called for submission of Indoor Navigation products and services for the exhibition industry. The aim was to identify young companies offering new systems that improve visitor experience and create added value for exhibition organisers, venues and their customers.
