Designed to attract and nurture entrepreneurial talent, the new IBTM Accelerate zone showcases the future for MICE by bringing innovative ideas to the market and delivering inspirational short talks on the future of the event industry.

BTM World has smashed its record for prearranged meetings at the first stage of its bespoke appointment matching process, with meeting numbers up 6% up on last year’s total at this stage. There has also been an increase year-on-year in the average number of appointments per exhibitor. Furthermore, latest figures show that 50% of Hosted buyers so far confirmed are new to the IBTM portfolio and 61% are new to IBTM World. Commenting on the news, David Thompson, Exhibition Director, said: “We’re delighted to announce such strong results. We continue to work hard to secure the highest calibre buyers for IBTM World, and to bring new buyers to the event to give our exhibitors a wealth of potential new business opportunities. We’re committed to building on the success of previous years to deliver more, even better quality meetings for our customers.”

One of this year‘s highlights is the event’s new IBTM Accelerate zone. Designed to attract and nurture entrepreneurial talent, the zone incorporates exhibitors and education sessions that will give delegates the opportunity to learn from other successful MICE entrepreneurs and share ideas with their peers. The finalists are on the one hand companies such as Engaging Meetings, a meeting design and consultation agency focused on increasing engagement in participants, or Zenith Experience, an adventure experiences agency providing unique outdoor experiences for the international corporate sector.

Focus on innovation: IBTM Accelerate.

And on the other hand technology providers such as Bobelo, a travel agency that uses Artificial Intelligence to create customised travel itineraries for company events and trips, or Wolowo, a virtual reality tech service and app that creates virtual 360 degree tours of any venue or location. Other examples of exciting new companies are Canvas Planner, a task and collaboration tool that combines the visual power of a canvas with task management, and Follow the Folk, a food tourism events agency based in Spain, which provides a cultural immersion into gastronomy and local cuisine. The range of different business services showcases IBTM World‘s approach to innovation with its new zone.

IBTM Accelerate features several interactive discussions for the next generation of event planners; an ‘Influencers of MICE’ series led by ex-MPI president and Founder of Word of MICE Mariska Kesteloo; Future Focus – a series of sessions focusing on the future of the MICE industry, and the IBTM World Tech Watch Awards are all presented in IBTM Accelerate zone.
